Weight loss can be an extremely difficult and personal journey and 50% of Americans are struggling to get rid of excess weight. Unfortunately, the pandemic has only exacerbated the situation with 42% of us having gained even more extra weight in this difficult time. On average, Americans have gained almost 30lbs since the pandemic began, and 10% of us have actually gained over 50lbs. Healing yourself can significantly help with small business efficiency.

One of the most difficult aspects of weight loss is the stigma felt by those who are seeking to lose weight. Often, the emotional toll on overweight or obese individuals can seem every bit or even heavier than the actual weight itself and it can perpetuate a feeling of hopelessness.

This sense of hopelessness is sadly only increased when overweight individuals seek or even consider seeking help from their physicians. Very often, they either fear being judged or they actually experience judgment from their general doctors. This may partially be due to the fact that most physicians simply are not trained in the field of weight loss and they don’t have the expertise required to help these patients in a meaningful way.

Often, the main issue when it comes to successful weight loss is that individuals and their physicians are attempting to treat a symptom without addressing the cause. Weight gain can be tied to so many things that are not strictly weight related, such as childhood trauma, depression, hormone imbalances, or metabolic diseases.

Since most doctors are not informed about treating obesity, they also may simply fail to suggest available drugs that are proven to be safe and effective.

Essentially, the biggest hurdle to helping those overweight or obese individuals is the inability or lack of knowledge to treat the whole person rather than just the symptom.
