A consistent full night’s sleep can be hard to commit to with our rapid pace of life, attention to our teams, attending to innumerable responsibilities, and the general need for more hours in the day which often cuts into our nights. Despite their busy lives, our world’s highest earners reserve sun-down for recharging, to fuel each coming day’s success. Recent reports are revealing the importance of sleep. Though going to bed often feels like an interception of productivity, it’s an unwavering foundation for augmenting it.

The majority of leaders in international industries get the recommended 7 to 8 hours of sleep each night. Speaking to this, founder of Amazon Jeff Bezos says, “Eight hours of sleep makes a big difference for me, and I try hard to make that a priority. For me, that’s the needed amount to feel energized and excited”. With a net worth of $195 billion (USD), his universal key to success feels attainable.

The effects of poor sleep are many and can be detrimental. Those who get less than 6 hours of sleep per night have a 13% high risk of mortality than those who get 7 or more hours of sleep each night. Additionally, they have a weakened ability to make sound financial decisions, are twice as likely to have a car accident, and reap physique consequences as 0.42 units of BMI is gained per hour of sleep.

Sound sleep has a plethora of benefits, but two critical ones are undoubtedly noteworthy. First, sufficient sleep ups performance and productivity. While this asset applies to all facets of life, the proof is in the numbers with well-rested employees saving businesses as much as $1,976 annually. Second, good sleep increases the longevity of good health. Directly correlated with a more supported immune system, adequate sleep has been proven to keep people healthier for longer.

You can transform your sleep by improving your sleep hygiene. Consider these two steps. Also, try sleeping on a more comfortable mattress. A cozy mattress has been reported to improve sleep quality by 93% of consumers, and it can do the same for you. Clean your bed sheets more often. More than two-thirds of adults reported greater excitement towards sleeping when they use clean sheets.

Maintaining a clean quiet room, committing to a good sleep schedule, and augmenting other healthy habits will lead to better sleep, and with better sleep, a new and improved you. Learn more about the link between sleep and success in the visual deep dive below:
